I own a Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC, though, and recently had occasion to deal with Compaq Customer Service.
They were helpful, courteous, fast, and efficient, and the repairs cost me nothing. Quite frankly, I am blown away. Here's how it went down:
Step 1: Called 800 number and reported problem. I was told I would have some problems covered under warranty, and for the part that I had broken, they would give me an estimate before proceeding. It would probably be fixed and returned within 5-6 business days. Step 2: Next day - received padded, custom made postage-paid mailer box, for free. Step 3: Sent unit in via Airborne Express. (They'll normally come and get it at your house if you have somebody at home during the day, but in my case, I dropped it off Saturday at a nearby Airborne Express office.) Step 4: Unit was sent back to me in fine condition, the 5th business day.
They did repairs that were not covered by the warranty, and replaced a part I had broken. For free.
I used to have a low opinion of Compaqs until now. I only bought this Compaq product because I got a deal on it, in addition to a big rebate.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I would put my experience with CPQ at very nearly 10. It is the best service I have had, from anyone, for anything, in quite a long time.
