That says little about the sufficiency of the evidence.

The descendants were hardly enthusiastic that TJ was bonking some slave. It wasn't a receptive group to the notion. The evidence was closely scrutinized by a group of persons that were biased towards rejecting the conclusion; but still accepted it.

There is sufficient evidence to say with some confidence that either Jefferson or a close relative of Jefferson "produced a descendant by" one of Jefferson's slaves.

There was only one other possibility and he was rarely at the plantation. The odds are quite favorable that it was Jefferson. While it's not absolute, the consensus is that the child was TJ's. There's no "beyond reasonable doubt" requirement.
