I don't know what gives you that impression. Dell doesn't have the kind of internal development engines that IBM or Compaq have. Not that Dell couldn't hire engineers for these tasks, but I think their specialty is high volume, assembly line parts - built to order, quick to ship, very little inventory. Xeon fits perfectly into this model, and Itanium is sure to follow, but it needs more infrastructure. I expect Dell to be a larger adopter once it becomes a "proven" technology. The idea that they would sell RS6000s, or even that IBM would license these, is totally ludicrous.
