Digital TV Set Production Up 86%
Todd Shields
APRIL 24, 2002 -
Factories shipped 86 percent more digital
television units in March than they shipped in the
same month a year earlier, the Consumer
Electronics Association said Wednesday.
The figures were released as the trade group used its annual digital television
summit to tout its members' progress in the transition to digital television.
DTV product sales totaled 148,369 units last month with dollar sales of more
than $257 million, said CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro. "HDTV is
succeeding," he said.
The CEA represents manufacturers, distributors and others involved in the
electronics industry. Its vice president for technology policy, Michael Petricone,
told the Washington audience today that high-definition equipment sales could
total $9 billion this year.
