Phone provided by Korea's LG Infocomm

Verizon Wireless, the largest mobile carrier in the U.S., has launched another CDMA 1XRTT-compatible handset into the market.

The model in question is made by LG Mobile Phones, part of Korea's LG InfoComm. It has a clamshell design with external LCD (so that the screen can be displayed even if the clamshell is shut) and weighs just 3.8 ounces and has what the Verizon statement described as 'wow-factor functionality', including voice dialing as well as messaging and web browsing. It will be available for $199.99 with a two-year service agreement.

This brings to two the number of handsets available that can take advantage of the network upgrade. The Kyocera 2235 has been available since Verizon's 1X 'Express Network' went live in January. The higher speed transmission enabled by these phones is only evident when they are hooked up to a laptop as wireless modem. <<
