No way, Laz.
Way, Poet. I was sitting on a 4-square mile desolate, cold, windy, wet rock at the end of the Aleutian chain earning several times what any engineer in an ordinary place would make just for putting up with it. It's like being in prison, I think, except you're well paid.

Too many people with too much money and nothing to spend it on. Nothing to do but work (such as it was; we were really just babysitting some equipment), eat, sleep, and try to destroy your liver. The place was swarming with end-of-the-world goldbugs. I heard every theory for total financial disaster for the entire world that you can possibly imagine.

And I just kept noticing that none of them ever quite worked out. But the end-of-the-world date kept moving out. And that's how I lost my faith in gold.

Good thing, because it SERIOUSLY underperformed for a LONG, LONG TIME.
