They would still get some benefits from using Motorola's CDMA expertise to help them jump start a position in W-CDMA. Maybe not deep six, but it would be hard to expect them to enthusiastically support CDMA2000 unless they just let the Motorola division be run separately. I'm thinking of the Daimler/Chrysler merger here. A lot of talk of equal partnership up front but it wasn'[t long before Lutz had hit the road.

Just heard on Bloomberg that NTTDOCOMO beat earnings and the CEO expects big demand for 3G phones next year.
