Because of the way the questions were answered, 37.5% of the people that visited the site and took the quiz were categorized as libertarians. That is hardly surprising, as the average Joe socialist isn't as likely to visit the site.
The quiz doesn't estimate percentages, it defines them. The intent of the quiz is not to guess if you are libertarian, it is to tell you if you are. People who are confused about the terms "conservative" or "liberal" are thereby educated. If person thinks she is strictly a conservative but pegs out as a libertarian, the quiz points out that she should re-think her definitions.
True, the quiz is limited in its resolution, but I don't think the questions are particularly biased. People that claim to be socialist, conservative, etc. - and who know what those terms mean - peg out in the right places. There are a lot of people that don't know the world contains more than left-wingers, centrists, and right-wingers.
Here's a challenge to the thread: compose a more detailed questionnaire that identifies a person's stand on more major issues, and that remains unbiased. I think roughly 50 questions would give enough resolution. Post your candidate questions here, and I'll post a draft once a week or so. -g |
