Does it not mean that making the liquidity available is a sign that all is not well? ----- attempt to forestall what is worse to come --- an unravelling of the markets.

I recall reading that the big mistake the Feds made in the crash of 1929 was that they did not turn on the liquidity spigot. However, the Feds turned on the (fiat) money spigot in 1987! And the markets "recovered" soon after that.

Of course, it's not gonna work everytime. And, given the US economy as it now stands, would not any iquidity "cure" (if ever it becomes available) be worse than the disease?
