Nope. And my effort to use Alchemy as an example of why goodwill depreciation may be low or high seemed a lot more effective when I typed it. R&D should definitely be an expense. My Alchemy line of reasoning was wacky.

I mentioned in a post that there would be no modifications to the balance sheet which were not reflected on the income statement. I overlooked a very obvious set of significant transactions: share sales (direct or through options) and repurchases. This was the main reason for the discrepancy between Intel's earnings reports and the change in its balance sheet over the last year. I mention this to correct my previous claim and also as it was a point you didn't make when we were last squabbling over Intel's balance statement.
