Through out the years, Israel has used all in its power, including military, political and economical, to create this refugee slums with no hope of end to them.

I don't know the history as well as others here do. But I believe there is an opportunity before Arafat now to influence the destiny of the Palestinians once and for all. He can embrace it or he can blow it. I think if he chooses to walk away from peace again he is finished and the Palestinians will be committed to a further extension of their problems.

I don't believe Israel is to blame for the Palestinians' situation. In particular, Arafat has previously squandered an opportunity to materially improve the situation. I think he's getting another chance. Without regard for how desperate these people are, what their circumstances are, or how hard it is, their willingness to attack innocents and lack of willingness to negotiate in good faith say an awful lot.

I don't know if you saw 60 minutes tonight. I found it totally alarming that 7 out of 7 of the students, ostensibly trained in the Muslim faith, interviewed believed these suicide bombers were "martyrs" on their ways to "paradise". That these American citizens have been raised to believe this must be cause for concern to all decent people. There is really, really something wrong with this picture.
