An important withdraw for sure. And not only for Judaism, but for all. The phenomenon, as I see it will be stronger and foremost in the Christian arena.
Its motors are : modernity, schools, teachers, sexual freedom, women's lib, Baywatch, science, progress, globalization, books, more open societies, abortion, euthanasia, health, body culture.
The Church did not make a mistake by banning sexual freedom outside of procreation. They knew the risks. Condom, birth control, marriage for priests are great dangers, bigger than what is happening with the errand priests now; just as satellite dishes in Iran or Talibanland are dangers for their regime.
Gallileo did win, it is just a question of time for all to realize it. Now, the phenomenon will not be the same in each age group, and there could be some shism around midlife, when people start to get really scared of the small amount that's still left.
But worry not, my dear Len, it will take time.
