I don't consider breathing an important consideration. If you hold your breath your still human. If you are choking and can't breathe your still human. If some technological method was set up to keep your body properly oxygenated without you having to breathe you would still be human.

A heartbeat would be a better sign then a first breath but its still not a good one (someone in cardiac arrest or who has a machine pumping their blood is still human).


Tim, if you are not going to buy that breathing is a human function, meaning that the fetus is now off the mother's life support, then a beating heart is no different. So the first brain waves will be the deciding factor and we agree that abortions are good until that point.
