Triffin could probably add a lot on that (on why people might be buying calls). He's the resident expert on hedging strategies.

The indexes are oversold at this point, so the early buyers are coming in, testing the waters.

I don't know whether the buy point has been reached yet. Some lower support levels haven't been hit yet. But I can't predict the future. That 0 with the Naz would be a signal, but it'd be good through tomorrow's lows. And as I've said over and over, the CI's can linger at oversold levels, at 0, while the market continues to move down. Who knows whether that'll be the case this time.
