As for government's responsibilities growing that is the growth that I am complaining about.
You don't become the world superpower by being the small kid on the block. It sounds to me like you would be happier in a country of fewer roles and responsibilities, Australia perhaps. The path from superpower to average is a rocky one where many resentments are paid back.
