Cities are not more suited for the US brand of warfare than jungle.

True but jungle can cover huge areas of the country and keep you from even knowing where the enermy is sometimes. I agree that overall city fighting is worse but there was city fighting at Hue. City fighting is easier when you can complelty control the area around the city. The German's never shut off all access to Stalingrad which made the attack at least ten times harder.

better technology ..." The technology for fighting in cities haven't changed much since the Russians held off the Germans at Stalingrad (and despite the superior German technology and control of the air).

Guided bombs and missiles let you deal more destruction on enemy soldiers while killing less civilians. That is a change from WWII.

no superpower help of Iraq ..." True, but guerilla warfare doesn't require superpower help. Iran is good enough.

You think Iran is going to help Saddam? If it does it wont be able to give as much help as Vietnam got.

"... less political restrictions on our military once we do commit ..." This is simply untrue.

Not it isn't. There wont be any refusal to bomb the capital or bombing targets needing white house approval, and most of all there wont be any equivilent to North Vietnam. Saddam won't be able to sit untouched in Baghdad knowing that there is almost 0% chance that US ground forces will bother him. During a large part of the war the North Vietnamese didn't even have to worry about getting bombed in Hanoi. I'm not saying there will not be a political interference, there will be, and it will be more then there was in say World War II, but it won't be as bad as Vietnam.

and most of all nobody that will support Saddam as strongly as the Vietnamese communists pushed for a reunified communist Vietnam." May or may not happen. The Communists weren't exactly seen as big time liberators in the South, were they?

They where by some people. But mainly I was talking about how comitted they where over a very long an very difficult period of fighting, 1st against the French and then against the Americans. They couldn't defeat the Americans in anything much bigger then a skirmish but they won through determination.
