WHT - Its not just to avoid paying a royalty. Don't forget that they now have massove competition from Korea and soon China and if NOK was servile to QCOM's IPR all they would be is just another handset maker. The game would be up for NOK and Finland.

As it is they have to do what they are doing. The Europeans are going to be screwed but they are used to it as they know no better. Check out the cost of a mobile to mobile call in Gt Briatain or a fixed line to mobile call.

The funny thing is that most media and commentators seem to accept that Europe is way ahead of the US in mobile wireless. It is laughable but they keep on repeating it. Thats just fine. It doesn't hurt the Q. It will only make it all the stronger as the truth starts to emerge.
