Lam Research CFO backs targets

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Lam Research's chief financial officer reiterated on Tuesday the company's expectations of continuing momentum supporting new orders for semiconductor-manufacturing equipment.

Mercedes Johnson said purchases of leading-edge gear such as for the 130 nanometer and 300 mm classes of chip-making remain strong. This new technology allows chipmakers to manufacture better-conducting semiconductors for less money.

Johnson spoke at Merrill Lynch's Hardware Heaven Technology Conference in San Francisco.

Recently, shares of Lam Research (LRCX: news, chart, profile) were 3.3 percent higher at $25.86.

Johnson said acceptance times for equipment have been declining due to a program implemented after the adoption of an accounting rule that alters how revenue is treated on a company's balance sheet.

In certain situations, the changes create lags between when a company ships a product and when such a shipment is actually booked as revenue.
