True to some extent. The opposite is also true. Britain banned the slave trade and actively tried to suppress it- -in spite of the fact that it had been the biggest benefactor.

The American abolitionists fought slavery here and eventually caused the Civil War which resulted in its abolishment.

"Kinder, Kuche, Kirche" anf that other K, whatever it was, used to apply here. It is largely gone now.
