Hi Dale......IMO the number of civilian casualties (Palestineans) far outnumber the number of Palestinean fighters killed. The Israeli refusal to let the UN inspect the area where they have been the most active is indicative of a coverup. The Israeli policy of bulldozing homes of civilians is another example the viciousness of the Israeli forces acting against civilians.

Both Sharon and Sadaam Hussein (Iraq)have thumbed their noses at international inspectors and at G. Bush.

Solutions.....nothing clear cut as far as I can tell. Probably an International Peace keeping force that would keep the Palestineans and the Israeli's separated. Previous accords don't mean much because there have too many of them and they have all failed.

It was mentioned in the NYT's that the Israeli's were considering fencing off parts of the West Bank, to increase their safety. The Israeli's should notice the result of our fences between the US and Mexico. Not very effective. Or how about the Berlin Wall. (A lot of wasted masonry).

My new theory is that Sharon and Arafat were twins separated at birth. Neither likes this theory so its probably true.

Your opinion...>>>My personal opinion is that we should back off, give them as much support as possible, and let them deal with their own problems<<<

We have given the Israeli's support (many billions of American Tax dollars) and they have bitten our hand in appreciation. (refusal to listen to Bush or Powell). If the Israeli's were left to solve things by themselves there wouldn't be any Palestineans left to be concerned about. Remember Zeevi the assassinated Israeli Tourism minister? His opinion was the the Palestineans were vermin and had to be eliminated. Zeevi was like Colonel Chivington of the American Indian Wars who noted that Indians were like nits, and nits make lice. He was responsible for the Sand Creek Massacre, that killed about two hundred Indian women and children.

Opinions on the solutions vary greatly. But its clear to me that the Israeli or Palestinean solutions are stillborn. The Israeli's have had 30 years to solve this problem and are further from a solution than ever before. This could be the second "Hundred Years War".
