Actually, the situation is like this: Kinsey over- estimated because he used a skewed sample. Recent research has established a base- line by taking cities with lots of uncloseted gays, like San Francisco, and establishing an estimate of active homosexuals in proportion to the population there. That figure is about 5%. Then figuring that there is less of a concentration in "fly over" country, the estimate is between 2 and 3 percent. Active is defined as having had "same sex" within a certain period, I forget how long, but I believe more than a year. Thus, it includes bisexuals if they have been active within the parameters, but does not include abstainers or people with sporadic same sex experience. The supposition is that in places like New York and San Francisco, there is relatively little penalty attached to being uncloseted, so even those in the closet would tend to be candid in a blind survey, and that the overwhelming majority of people with strong homosexual tendencies will have been active within the time frame, with so much opportunity........
