Elmer: Seeing as AMD publicly claimed that TBred contained no architectural changes, it would seem that TBred IS a dumb shrink or a compaction to utilize extra metal layers.

There have been different claims at different times. Most recently, as you state, "no architectural changes" (which is apparently backed up by the initial reviews, although I have not read them). Earlier, there were hints of improvements.

It seems that AMD simply doesn't have the manpower to develop two cores simultaneously. IMHO, this is going to be a huge handicap in the long run - if nothing is done about it, of course.
