Defective Republican candidate. The winners will:

1) Make their theme "Cut taxes, stupid!"

2) "Take your schools back from the Teachers' unions."

3) "Bush is on our side. The Democrats have proven that they are on the side or terrorism."

4) "Don't let the American left disarm the law-abiding public."

The Democrats are fooling themselves on the off-year Virginia race. The Republican failed to establish his tax-cutting credentials, and got no administration support. The Dems spent themselves silly, and barely won.

Please, please underestimate Karl Rove! (to paraphrase Paul Begala). The Red Zone is the Real America, on which the Democratic party has been waging war. They are running their races in enemy territory this year, and making no attempt to hide their bitter contempt for the voters there. I can hear them whining on election night already...
