General Motors: The Only Automaker With Horsepower By James J. Cramer 05/01/2002 15:30
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Expect someone to get behind Ford F and Daimler DCX tomorrow. You can feel it. These analysts have been itching to upgrade the whole group.
Let me tell you what to do if you get that call: Sell Ford, sell Daimler and buy General Motors GM . This is not the same old General Motors. This is the real deal, a share-taker, a company doing many things right. It is GM that is doing well, not the industry.
Remember, though, that analysts don't think like that. They think "Ford has to play catch-up." Or "Daimler didn't stink up the works too badly, let me get on that horse. The GM horse is a bore."
This is common practice among analysts. In fact, if I were back at my hedge fund right now, I would be buying all three and then getting ready to blow all of them out except GM.
This is a one-horse group right now. When the others get it together, fine, buy them. Until then, stick with the one with the numbers that are just way too low.
Random musings: Cursing myself that I never bought this General Motors for my portfolio. But I can't do a thing, because I pushed the stock very hard on radio and now have to wait five more days!
