Check my facts? Okay, here they are:

"revenue from digital camera sales in North America will reach $1.9 billion this year [2000], exceeding revenue generated from film camera sales by almost 10%. Digital camera unit sales will exceed film cameras by 2002, growing from 6.7 million in 2000 to 42 million in 2005"
infotrends-rgi.com

"By 2006, worldwide unit sales of digital cameras will surpass those of traditional film cameras."
sric-bi.com

Okay, that's camera sales. But what about film sales?

Kodak's last quarterly release says:
"U.S. consumer film sales to dealers declined 19%" [OUCH!]
siliconinvestor.com

I couldn't find equivalent numbers for Fuji. Their last quarterly release was sketchy:
smartmoney.com
They basically say sorry we missed our numbers this year but 2003 will be awesome. We'll see about that.

Sorry if my last post was too flip. Normally I write long posts but that time I thought I would save my breath, since I thought it was obvious digital was taking over, and I just wanted to point out this was inevitably going to impact silver sales. I know there are some predictions silver demand will rise anyway, for example:

stockhouse.ca

But what is that prediction based on? The article says
"Demand last year suffered its biggest drop in 16 years, declining 4.7 percent", and yet they confidently predict it will rebound this year. "The company predicted a 3.2 percent increase in demand from the photographic industry". Once again, we'll see about that. Maybe silver will have a last hurrah in the next year or two, but I've decided not to bet my money on it.
