that is my whole point. don't believe in quack theories whether scientific or economic, including free trade
So what is your defense for protectionism, other than quoting great men? Fallacy of Authority.
good economics for whom? for large multinationals? for cultural elites? for politicians? for china? theodore roosevelt felt that protective tariffs were good economics. i trust his judgement on how to run a country far more than some liberal academic paper scribbler like milton friedman.
Good for the consumer, good for the health of industry. Free trade and free competition, ie unfettered Capitalism, means lower prices, greater selection, higher quality, and healthier business. Protectionism means higher prices, government supported inefficiencies in protected industries, less choice, and lower quality of goods and services.
Protectionism favors the uncompetitive business and inflexible labor, free trade favors the consumer and a dynamic, high skill workforce.
