Intel to supply chip sets to disposable cellular-phone maker Hop-On

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Intel Corp. here today announced it will supply cellular-phone chip sets to Hop-On Inc., a developer and seller of disposable and recyclable handsets.

Under the terms, Intel will provide TDMA chip sets to Hop-On for its disposable cell phones worldwide. Initial target markets for the handsets will be the United States and Latin America, said Peter Michaels, chairman and CEO of Hop-On of Garden Grove, Calif.

Hop-On claims to be the world's first developer of disposable cell phones. Unlike traditional cell phones, Hop-On's cell phones comes with 60 minutes of prepaid calling time, with no contracts, long-distance charges or other fees.
