FREMONT, Calif. -- ChipPAC Inc. today reported a 3.1% sequential increase in revenues to $79.1 million in the first quarter compared to $76.8 million in Q4 of 2001. Revenues were 12% lower than $89.9 million in Q1 of last year.

The supplier of chip-packaging and test services posted a net loss of $11.5 million, or $0.15 per share in Q1, but the company said it expects to report an operating profit in the second quarter and a reduction of net losses to a range of $0.07-to-$0.09 per share.

"We remain on a steady growth path. We have had two quarters in a row of sequential revenue and operating improvements," said Dennis McKenna, chairman and CEO of ChipPAC. "We expect this trend will further accelerate to a 12-to-15% sequential growth in revenue in the current second quarter. This revenue growth will get us back to a positive operating margin a full quarter ahead of plan," he added.
