Apartheid in Euroland
An interesting paper, thanks. BTW, did you know that Greater Israel exists already? The European Union is indeed an ideological extension for Israel or, in other words, Israel is the political laboratory of Europe's social fabric. As the current French election crisis shows, there're many would-be Sharons in Europe eager to emulate Israel's jackboot policy towards Arabs.
As you know, Arab Israelis are notoriously treated like second-class citizens --just like Arab immigrants in Europe; Israel doesn't want to annex the West Bank because it doesn't want to "spoil" its demographics with 3+ million additional Arab-Israelis --just like Europe snubs Turkey for the very same reason (60 million Turkish-Europeans!!); and just like the immigration of one million Russians in Israel has shifted Israeli politics to the extreme-right (Sharanski), the EU's enlargement towards Poland, Hungary,... will strenghten anti-Arab xenophobia throughout the Continent.
However, as I said repeatedly, Europe's demographics lies way above the critical mass beyond which it's quite impractical to enforce Judeofascism... Contrariwise, Israel's tiny population of about six million allows her to maintain a "block-by-block", house-by-house security in the country, whereas computer technologies (biometrics, video-surveillance,...) allows her to track down almost every suspicious passerby.
Below is an example showing how Israel's segregationist ideology can readily apply to Europe:
GJ: You are painting a picture of a European government, with the support of a substantial part of its native population, which aims toward permanent subordination of Muslim immigrants within its borders, along with domination over something that might be called a Mediterranean backyard but what would really amount to a dependent Bantustan. Essentially the same vision that motivated apartheid South Africa.
PB: Yes. And there are even more complexities. Within Europe there are really four levels of citizenship, the first three being various levels of native participation in European society, which are thoroughly racialized. At the top of the pyramid are the aristocrats and the upper bourgeoisie, the white European heirs of XIXth-century dynasties. At the level of power the huge contingent of nouveaux riches --now about 20 percent of European elites--are being assimilated into the European ruling class, though they are retaining a very distinct cultural identity.
The next level down, which is now probably the largest component of the European population, is the native middle class or the petite bourgeoisie, who are from working-class extraction. At the bottom of the native European pyramid are the proles, who are deeply distrusted. You can go into the poorest parts of Europe's cities and find that it's predominantly proletarian.
This social and economic stratification took shape throughout the last 200 years as different groups of Europeans from different layers of society came, for very different reasons, to mix together. So while the divisions reflected social origins, they play out in a profoundly racialized way.
The European proles in particular faced extraordinary discrimination. They were transported more or less involuntarily from the countryside to industrial cities. On arrival they were held in primitive camps, and many prole babies were stolen from their mothers and given for adoption to bourgeois families. [...]
Beneath all these layers of Native Europeans come the Muslim pseudocitizens.
A rigid hierarchy, highly racialized both within and between religious or social groups, orchestrates European social life. Much of it is legally enforced. The most significant difference between this scenario and other similar ones is in the world's perception of the European reality. For the overwhelming majority of the world's population, South Africa was always considered a pariah state. But Europe is not in that position. Europe is merely given a slap on the wrist, if you will, on the question of racism. Because France and Britain were among the victor powers in the aftermath of WWII, there's a way in which Native Europeans are assumed to be either no longer capable of such terrible racialized policies, or that it's somehow understandable because of what Native Europeans are going through....
But the current Mideast crisis has refocused attention on the nature and extent of European racism, among other things. You have new reports from Amnesty International looking at the European treatment of its own minority citizens--minors, children, being arrested, beaten and held for days. Europe treats immigrants, inside or outside the Schengen protocol, as being less human than Europeans. This is rooted in the very definition and Basic Flaw of the European protostate. And the ongoing Mideast crisis may give us a chance to challenge that apartheid character.
