Re: if AMD is a lot more efficient than Intel, why does Intel

Until recently, Intel has been able to receive monopoly pricing in most of its CPU market segments. Now that AMD is participating in all of Intel's markets, that opportunity for Intel is slipping away.

Intel continues to be able to get higher prices (much higher prices) for functionally identical products even in markets where it faces competition. Corporate IT buyers, in particular, have been willing to pay more (of other people's money) for less. Small business and home buyers, for whom it's "their" money, have been AMD's market. As long as this situation continues, Intel can continue to make money.
