Undercover cop dressed as clown to catch prostitutes

An undercover Florida police officer disguised himself as Coco the Clown to catch prostitutes.

Fox TV's COPS show on May 4 will show footage of Tampa officer Tim Pasley cruising the streets in his outfit.

He dressed in a purple wig, painted on big red lips and wore a flashing, bulbous nose when he met the women.

Four women were arrested after offering to have sex with him in return for money.

Officer Pasley says he's used other disguises before, but not a clown's outfit.

He says the idea for the disguise came from COPS producer Jim Langley who shot the footage of Tampa police at the end of 2001 and beginning of 2002.

Mr Langley also provided the operation's white van that housed hidden cameras. It was disguised as Coco's van and had advertisements about the clown's services on it.

Officer Pasley told the St Petersburg Times: "We have used other disguises - a Pizza Hut delivery boy or a taxicab driver. I used to have a locker full of uniforms but none of us thought of this."

Mr Langley was unavailable for comment.

A Fox spokesman says the concept may have emerged informally during conversations between producers and police.
