I've almost wondered at times if the whole industry knew it was building a house of cards. If the economy went well they'd be ok. But if the economy didn't go well they were doomed. Either way our telecom system needed to be built out. Had the taxpayers been asked to foot the bill the costs would have so high they would have freaked. Instead its like we used an industry as a type of Ponzi scheme so that if failure occurred the build out would still happen.
