What in the world are you talking about? What does JVM have to do with JIT?

Java code gets "compiled" into a byte code by Just In Time compiler. This byte code is then run by Java Virtual Machine - a program that translates it into machine code instructions.

I see this process as very Itanium unfriendly.

BTW, Microsoft has jumped on the same bandwagon - in concept - with .NET Framework and Common Language Runtime.
