wbmw, re: i856 chipset size / 80-90 or 150-200 mm^2

I got my dimensions from p. 12 for the southbridge (about 20x20) and p. 23 for the northbridge. The latter was a reference to a 12x12 TIM which I assumed was the right size for the northbridge. I didn't get out the scale to check the drawing on p. 10 but this is probably a better measure as the TIM is probably over-sized (most are on the HSF I have seen). So two chips at 90 and 200 mm^2.

BTW, p. 23 notes the benefits from lower TIM C/W for greater clamping pressure - the reason we have HSF with stiff clips. While I haven't seen the P4 HSF clamping mechanism it looks like a good solution to both avoid slips (I did this once) and have high clamping pressure. I wonder how difficult it is to design the motherboard to accommodate the slight flexing?
