Many don't buy stocks that have uncertain futures. Now we know the future and we know that Walter will stop looking for dirt and has pledged to help the company go forward. Also, if there was anything to flush out of the WCOM/ENE/TYCO type mess at HP or Compaq, then it probably would have been found by now by people looking for reasons to kill the deal.

HWP was actually well known for conservative accounting practices and it should benefit from the fears of accounting shenanigans by the market. Value investors like David Dreman actually had HP as a buy back at $30… which seems like a long time ago… and I think even Walter was a net buyer back then.

I also think that Carly and Caprillias should work for a buck in pay for the next year and tie their salaries to having the stock at a higher price in 3 to 5 years… Clearly both were over paid the past year or two as the companies didn't do well on their own under their watch. I sure don't want to hear any of this nonsense of $100M pay packages… or we can start calling her Carly Ebbers!
