Jerome,
I was never sure that israel played the strategic role specifically during the cold war that supporter claimed. I am beginning to see that now. As weird as it may seem, Israel may have prevented a hot war from engulfing the region that may have escalated to nuclear US/USSR confrontation. Now without the USSR Western strategic interests are regional stability, oil flow, economic dev, and democracy in no particular order. If the arab israel issue is finally settled, we can get on with removing the major obstacle to stability, iraq. Eco dev and democracy need to be addressed for the long term as well. mike

PS no signs of a market rally. Decline overdone imo. Unemployment will get worse before it gets better as more people reenter labor market, now that the economy is picking up. Also good news is no fed rate hikes anytime soon.
