Yes, I know, Freddy, but how will we ever be able to measure anything in a concrete manner if we do not have any statistics?? Certainly there are ways to manipulate them, and I am very aware that in public opinion polls, for instance, the way a question is asked impacts on the way people answer.
However, it seems logical that in countries which are just developing, especially left-over socialist states, that there would be an entrepreneurial, managerial, mafioso class that springs ahead quickly. In Russia, as well as China, this seems to be the case. Then, when the most vulgar corruption is stamped out, and more people get the hang of working hard and making money, I think the middle class grows quickly and hopefully the gaps between rich and poor become less relevant.
