There is just something about Ellison that people don't like. I don't know what it is, really, because he doesn't bother me. The San Jose Mercury News hates Ellison, so any chance they get they slam him and his company. So of course they are playing up this business with the state buying the software. What's especially funny to me is that they uncritically report the "audit" that claims that the purchase is a waste of money, as if we're just supposed to believe it. I don't know whether or not CA got a good deal, but if one state agency is hopelessly clueless about buying software, why is another one assumed to be so smart about it? The reason, of course, is that as long as the story has something bad to say about ORCL, the Murky News will run it on the front page.
