I made the point that there are similarities between the Barbary pirates of 1801 and the terrorists who wrecked the twin towers in 2001. Neocon said my "analogy was phony," arguing that the Barbary pirates "didn't divert plutonium from facilities in Kazakhastan, and attempt to learn how to put a bomb together, etc."

He seems to be arguing that technology has rendered useless an analogy between the Barbary pirates and the followers of Osama bin Laden. (In fact, the terrorist mindset has changed little in the past 200 years.)

Fine. if that's what he wants to argue, then let's extend the historical irrelevancy argument to the Second Amendment. The framers of the Constitution never envisioned semi-automatic weapons in the hands of psychotic school children. If they had, then the "right to bear arms" likely would have been reined in.
