No, that was not my purpose at all. My intent was to show that the United States experienced similar terrorism 200 years ago, and there might be some lessons to be learned from how we handled the thugs in 1802.

The Barbary pirates were an organized and powerful terrorist threat in 1802; they were first-rate extortionists, not a gaggle of one-eyed swashbucklers. It took the U.S. more than four years (and some embarrassment) to put these well-organized "pirates" in their place.

Indeed, there are many similarities between the terrorists of past and present: how they were organized, financed; how they extorted money from governments; culture/religion, etc.

Too bad you painted yourself into a corner in Round 1 and now refuse to consider the significance of historical precedent.
