...Corn...

I talked with my neighbor farmer yesterday about futures and corn. Some interesting points:

Everybody grows corn everywhere.

There is no money in corn.

Government subsidies in corn. Only reason many go ahead and grow it.

There are more and more growing corn just for the Methanol plants to mix with gasoline.

He has to grow corn anyway for his cattle...good feed.

He can buy corn cheaper than growing it when it reaches $1.50 a bushel.

Doesn't think corn will have any great swings in price upward...ever...too much of it everywhere.

He thinks if you want volatility...try Wheat/Oats. He says that is a highly volatile market. Not everybody everywhere grows it like corn. Texas panhandle area of country is big in wheat. They have had a couple bad years. Perhaps will be bad again this year?
