Yeah, but he was talking about rump steak, which I never buy. Looking at the Sunday supplement, I see boneless eye of round is $2.48, bone in New York strip steak is $4.99, and whole chickens are $0.48 a pound.
It's usually a little cheaper at Costco but they don't advertise.
Depending on the store and the grade, beef here runs from around $2 for ground beef to around $8 for Black Angus choice boneless rib eyes. Most of the beef we buy is in the $3-$5 range.
The kids love hamburgers, and we make a lot of beef stew and pot roast. For stew and pot roast, between $2.50 and $3. Steaks are between $4 and $5. Cheaper at Costco.
If I was going to LTBH, depending on the price I'd take a look at WalMart, Costco, Home Depot and Office Depot. Very solid companies, well managed. But I have not looked at their prices lately, nor their balance sheets.
My local Office Depot just put in new cash registers and scanners, smaller and faster, with more capabilities (like a screen you sign instead of paper tape), and get this -- the equipment is all used. They bought used equipment. Or maybe they transferred it from another store that got new stuff. But the point is that they did not trash it. Smart. |
