Re: Why does Intel sell 4 CPUs for every one that AMD sells?

Momentum, for the most part.

In 1997 Intel sold about 12 times as many CPUs as AMD
In 1998-1999 Intel moved to selling about 6 times as many CPUs as AMD
In 2000 Intel sold about 5 times as many CPUs as AMD
In 2001 Intel sold about 4 times as many CPUs as AMD

Over this period, the gap between Intel and AMD ASPs has narrowed, so the change in revenue has been greater than the change in units.

Info on older share here:

By the end of this year the ratio should be at about 3.5 to one heading to 3 to 1 next year.

And Intel's stock price represents a market cap of 50 times that of AMD.
