JC, I never said I wrote the book on politeness. I've seen instances where a poster has put someone on ignore and told them so. I usually take this as an attempt by poster #1 to get some distance from poster #2. Now, if poster #2 then uses the opportunity of his/her invisibleness to poster #1 to make nasty comments, then I don't think that's very nice.
On the other hand, it seems part of accepted BR behavior to make swipes at others in posts to third parties. You do it yourself:

I thought Walsh's numbers on children sounds high, too. Yet he said it before Congress, so you would think he had the facts.

All seriousness aside, we are the lesser for the women's absence, including (hypothetically) Poet.
Now, if you don't think this practice is "fair play", why do you engage in it yourself?
