Itronics' GOLD'n GRO Fertilizer Sales Up 749 Percent in April

472 Percent for First Four Months of 2002
RENO, Nev.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 6, 2002--Itronics Inc. (OTC BB: ITRO) today reported that GOLD'n GRO fertilizer sales by its subsidiary, Itronics Metallurgical, Inc., increased 749 percent in April 2002 compared to the same month in 2001. GOLD'n GRO fertilizer sales for the first four months of 2002 are up 472 percent compared to 2001.

"The chelated liquid zinc micronutrient product, GOLD'n GRO zinc, introduced last fall for the specialty agricultural market has gained significant market acceptance and is leading the sales growth," said Dr. John Whitney, Itronics President. "The fertilizers for the turf and ornamental markets are also showing strong sales growth and acceptance."

"Itronics Metallurgical is finishing the expansion at the Reno processing plant which is both increasing manufacturing capacity and making tank truck loading more efficient," said Dr. Whitney. "This expansion is being completed to accommodate the large GOLD'n GRO sales increase. This sales increase also means we will capture more silver in the photochemical conversion process, allowing us to increase sales of silver later this year in an improved market."

Itronics Metallurgical sells its high performance GOLD'n GRO liquid fertilizer, which also can be used for lawns and houseplants, and its popular Silver Nevada Miner bars, a souvenir of the Silver State, through its shopping cart catalog at the Company's Web site: itronics.com.

Itronics, through its subsidiary, Itronics Metallurgical, Inc., is the only company in the world with the technology to extract more than 99 percent of the silver and virtually all the other toxic heavy metals from photowaste and to convert the resulting liquid into environmentally beneficial, chelated, multinutrient liquid fertilizer products sold under the trademark GOLD'n GRO. Itronics was one of five finalists for the 2001 Kirkpatrick Chemical Engineering Award, the most prestigious worldwide award in chemical engineering technology.

Itronics Inc. is one of Nevada's leading process technology development companies and a world leader in photochemical recycling. Headquartered in Reno, Nevada, it specializes in recycling technology development, photobyproduct recycling, silver refining, and technical services for the mining and recycling industries. Dr. John Whitney, Itronics President, was selected as Nevada's Inventor of the Year for 2000 and is a member of the Inventor's Hall of Fame at the University of Nevada, Reno.
