mPhase Technologies: mPhase Technologies enhances the business case for Video-over-DSL mPhase sets distance record for MPEG-2 video through successful field trial of the mPhaseStretch

NORWALK, Conn., May 06, 2002 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- mPhase Technologies,
Inc. (OTC BB: XDSL), the leading designer of innovative solutions for the
delivery of broadcast digital television and high-speed data solutions over
copper wires, announced a significant milestone in building the business case
for delivering video-over-DSL. mPhase set the distance record for the delivery
of MPEG 2 broadcast television over Hart Telephone's copper plant by
transmitting broadcast television out to 20,700 feet, a development that helps
telcos around the world increase their per subscriber revenue and compete more
effectively and profitably for the delivery of converged services.

The ability to deliver high quality MPEG-2 video to 20,000 feet significantly
enhances the business model for video-over-copper by obviating the need to
deploy expensive fiber-fed remote terminals to reach outlying customers. The
mPhaseStretch(tm) almost doubles the prevailing service distance radius for the
delivery of broadcast television over telephone wires. This achievement marks a
breakthrough in the video-over-copper marketplace worldwide and is much needed
for those telephone companies and service providers delivering or planning to
deliver a "triple play" of services (i.e., TV, high speed data and voice).

"This milestone enhances the economics of video over ADSL, making it even easier
and more cost effective for telephone companies around the world to deliver
television-based services," according to Ronald A. Durando, President & CEO of
mPhase. "The ability to deliver bandwidth sufficient to support MPEG-2
television out to 20,000 feet dramatically increases the economic viability of
the business case for delivering TV over telephone lines." This achievement
allows mPhase to extend its claim as having the longest reach of any
video-over-copper system, significantly increasing the marketability of the
Traverser(tm) DVDDS. mPhase is known for it's reliable system and consistent
quality of service because the Traverser avoids any type of IP-transport. By
avoiding IP-transport, mPhase offers the most competitive per port cost, and
with added superior reach, no other transport system can come close in reach and
cost effectiveness. mPhase expects the mPhaseStretch to have a major impact on
the marketability of the Traverser in the international marketplace as well as
among rural telcos in the U.S.

The mPhaseStretch, utilizes proprietary loop extender or repeater technology.

The device is typically placed onto the loop at around 9,000 feet or where the
signal begins to degrade and enables the delivery of voice, video and data over
4.48 mbps of bandwidth out to 20,700 feet. The Stretch is the only loop extender
able to support the delivery of native MPEG-2 video signals out 6.3 km (20,700
feet) consistently and reliably. This breakthrough, previously achieved in the
lab, has now been replicated in the field.

About mPhase Technologies, Inc.

mPhase Technologies Inc. operates three primary business segments: -- The
Company develops solutions for cost-effectively and reliably transmitting
broadcast digital television, high-speed Internet access and traditional
telephone service over existing copper telephone lines via its flagship product,
the Traverser(TM) Digital Video and Data Delivery System (DVDDS). The
award-winning Traverser(TM) system enables service providers to simultaneously
transmit up to 400 channels of MPEG-2 digital television programming via a NIP
(Non-Internet Protocol)-based platform. As a result of the innovative design of
the Traverser, mPhase has the longest serviceable distance radius, the most
reliable and cost-effective solution for the delivery of video-over-DSL.

-- mPhaseTelevison.net, Inc. ("mPhase TV") provides a turnkey digital television
package, including basic, premium and pay-per-view programming to service
providers utilizing video over DSL (digital subscriber line). The comprehensive
package offered by mPhase and mPhaseTV provides telcos with turnkey systems that
couple technology with content, thereby enhancing their revenue opportunities,
speeding time to market and allowing for additional revenues from
near-video-on-demand, digital ad insertion and other sources.

-- mPhase offers a growing line of components utilized in the installation and
testing of DSL, including the high density POTS Splitter Shelf, the Test Access
Shelf, the iPOTS(TM) (Intelligent POTS Splitter Shelf), Universal Bypass and the
recently introduced mPhaseStretch(tm). The products all help service providers
lower the provisioning and operating costs associated with DSL.
