ATLANTA, May 6, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --
Scientific-Atlanta (NYSE: SFA) announced today that Cox has begun
testing Scientific-Atlanta's Explorer 8000 home entertainment

committed to purchase the innovative device to provide personal

and will be capable of recording up to 50 hours of programming
without the need for a phone line. The Explorer 8000 platform will
also capable of sharing a wide range of entertainment related
content throughout the home, including video, music, and digital
images.

"Cox is fully committed to delivering the innovative
communications and entertainment on-demand services our customers
want, when they want them," said John Hildebrand, Vice President,
Multimedia Technology for Cox Communications. "Scientific-
Atlanta's Explorer 8000 home entertainment server enables Cox to
enhance our customers' television viewing experience like never
before, with interactive TV services like PVR that put our
customers in control of when their favorite shows and content
appear on their TV screens."

"The Explorer 8000 home entertainment server represents years of
research and development on behalf of cable operators and their
customers. The result is the world's first fully integrated single
box PVR and home entertainment solution for cable, designed to
deliver everything on demand for cutting edge cable operators like
Cox Communications and their customers," said Jim McDonald,
chairman, CEO, and president of Scientific-Atlanta. "While there's
been a lot of hype in the market lately, Scientific-Atlanta's
Explorer 8000 home entertainment server is the only solution ready
today to let cable consumers access VOD, email, Web browsing, chat
and personal video recorder applications with a single box."
