Re: [Barrett said]"We're looking at a relatively flat second quarter."

I wonder that if that should be interpreted as not-so-bad news, if he mean 'flat' as compared to first quarter. (Given that the seasonal trend is - Q2 5-10% lower than Q1).

I think normally it would be considered okay news but with IT spending depressed for almost two years now, I think its not great news. Consumer spending has kept things from getting real bad for tech but I think its a pickup in IT spending that will get it out of its current trough.

In addition improving margins should help Intel a bit with their profits. Plus Flash might help both Intel and AMD.

I am not sure flash sales will pick up anytime soon. Production in cell phones just isn't there. Its like tech and tech products were a big fad in the late 90's and now people have moved on to something new.

You have to remember that the markets are supposed to predict economic conditions 6-9 mos. out. If so, then the Naz is not seeing a pick up anytime in 2002. In fact, talk is that the Naz will take out its 9/11 lows soon.......a number of large tech stocks in the Naz have already done so. That's something no expected as last as January of this year.

The DOW, on the other hand, is signaling that we should see some pick up in the industrial, oil and service sectors of the economy later this year.
