Verizon Wireless CEO Says NextWave-Airwaves Settlement Unlikely

New York, May 6 (Bloomberg) -- Verizon Wireless Inc. Chief Executive Officer Denny Strigl said he
doesn't expect to reach an agreement over disputed NextWave Telecom Inc. airwaves wanted by U.S.
mobile-phone companies for expanded services.

Wireless companies will meet with NextWave in the offices of Senator Ted Stevens tomorrow to discuss
the ownership fight, the Wall Street Journal reported earlier, citing people familiar with the situation. The
carriers have no proposals, the paper said.

``I don't see this settlement happening,'' Strigl, who runs the biggest U.S. mobile-phone company, said at
a Goldman, Sachs & Co. conference in New York. He declined to confirm the meeting at the Alaska
Republican's offices.

Wireless companies agreed to pay $15.9 billion for NextWave's airwaves at a U.S. auction last year. A
court later returned the spectrum to NextWave, which is in bankruptcy. A settlement of the dispute
collapsed when Congress failed to act on a plan that would have given the companies the frequencies
and Hawthorne, New York- based NextWave almost $6 billion for ceding control.
