Dear Dave: It's not the old Hewlett-Packard (HWP), it's the new HPQ in which both HP and Compaq contributions are recognized by both the stock symbol change as well as the announcement today that the Compaq name would not be dropped.

It's a fresh start for everyone. Compaq wasn't gobbled like some corporations are. It's a real merger where both companies needed each other.

Fresh start for all. Fresh thread.

Even at Yahoo! a fresh quote for HPQ started today. They didn't merely modify their information for HWP with the new stock symbols so that charts, etc., equally relevant for HWP and HPC, would show. They could have but they didn't. Not even historic prices for the old HWP are available any more.

Edit: Actually, Dave, we had a few discussions over on the old CPQ thread about retaining the CPQ or all joining the existing HWP thread at the merger. The symbols change clinched it for many of us. Neither existing thread was the right place to go.

Regards,

Lynn
